Summerfield is an unincorporated community in northwestern Castro County, Texas. The city was founded in 1890s and it was called Boom at the time. It was renamed in 1907 for surveyor John Summerfield in 1907 because there was another Texas community named Boom. The International Land Company of Chicago bought the part of town reserved for businesses in 1902. Baptists and Methodists shared a church building. In 1921 a brick school was constructed. The city went into the population decline after World War 2.
