Being one of the oldest towns in the county, Concepcion was named after Santa Cruz de Conception. It is located in southeastern Duval County. Since 2004 the town is known as the town with the healing tree. The olive tree was plated by Estelle Garcia in 2003. In the late 1940s the town was a trade center for the Concepcion oilfield. Concepcion TX is home to the oldest Catholic church in South Texas, a small chapel built in 1866 and renovated in 1947. The town is also known by the Spanish nickname ‘La Chona’, meaning ‘the village’
