Groom is a town in Carson County and part of the Amarillo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located east of Amarillo and west of Oklahoma City. It was named after B.B. Groom, the first general manager of the Francklyn Land and Cattle Company, whose cottonwood log house was located near the town. In 1902, the townsite was laid out on a railway route. That same year, its post office was established and in 1911, the town was incorporated. Groom managed to surpass two fires in 1912 and 1915; it became a shipping point for area ranchers and agriculture. The town experienced an oil boom in the 1920s and two decades after, a sewer system was added. As of 2010, its population was 574.
