Hillister is an unincorporated coterie situated in Tyler County in Texas. Hillister is placed beside U.S Route 69 and U.S Route 287, just south of Woodville which is the county seat of Tyler County. Even though the community is unincorporated, it has a post office. The town’s name is said to be after a railroad official but it is uncertain. The community’s post office opened in 1882. Hillister somehow endured as a presence in East Texas for one of its pioneer structures exhibited in Woodville’s Heritage National Museum. The city is set just eight miles south of Woodville and has an estimated population of around 250 residents.
