Iola is a city that is located in Grimes County in Texas. The town’s population was 401 at the 2010 census. It became only the fifth incorporated community in County town on November 6, 2007. Some believe that the city got its name after Edward Ariola. He was one of the colonists that were under Stephen F. Austin. They settled in this land in 1836. The peak population of this town was around 500 in 1936. After World War II the population slowly diminished to an estimated of around 300 in the 1950s. The city is located 32 miles north from the county’s largest city, Navasota.
