The Rio Grande is the County Seat of Starr in Texas. Rio Grande is also among the oldest residences in Texas. The area was founded in 1846. Rio Grande started as an exchange point for military supplies in the Mexican invasion of General Zachary Taylor. The city was the highest point, which made it a convenient trading spot. Henry Clay Davis married the heiress to this land, Hilaria de la Garza Falcon. At the end of the Mexican-American War, Henry transformed this area into a city. The area changed the name from Rancho Davis to Rio Grande City. The name change aimed to encourage settlers and investors to this place.
