Telephone is an unincorporated community in Fannin County, Texas, United States. The city has a population of 210. The settlement was there in 1870s and it truly developed in the 1880s. The name comes from the fact that the only telephone in the city was owned by a person who wanted to set it up. Other names he offered were rejected and the post office came up with this instead. Unlike most of the communities in the area Telephone has survived the Great Depression without losing its population. Public education in the community of Telephone is provided by the Sam Rayburn Independent School District.
