Bandera is a city in Bandera County in the US state of Texas. Its population, as per the 2010 census, was 857. The city is fondly referred to as the world’s Cowboy Capital. The founding of the city was courtesy of Roman Catholic immigrants from Poland. The immigrants built St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, one of the oldest churches in Texas. Most Bandera residents are descendants of these immigrants. There are several theories as to where the name Bandera originated. According to one theory, Bandera, which is a Polish and Spanish word meaning flag, was named after Bandera Pass. Bandera Pass was a path with a flag at its top.
