Cisco has a reputation for being one of the cleanest and most healthy cities in the state. Founded in 1881, Cisco was named after New York banker John Jay Cisco. The area became known as the ‘Gate City of the West’ from the immigrant brochures. In 1927, the ‘Santa Claus Bank Robbery’ occurred in the First National Bank. Formerly the Mobley Hotel, the Hilton Museum was Conrad Hilton’s first venture into the hotel business in 1919. Cisco is a source of supplies for the surrounding oil country. In 1920, the largest artificial water reservoir was built. Now, Cisco is the headquarters for a number of oil and supply houses.
