Moran is a city located in Shackleford County in Texas. Some of the pioneers came to this area in the 1860s. There was a temporary fortress built here during the Civil War. The population of the community rose a little bit when the Texas Central Railroad was being built in the area in 1881. The town was named one year later for a certain Charles Moran from New York, who was the owner of the Texas Central Railroad. The city of Moran’s public education system is being distributed by the Moran Independent School District. As of the 2010 census, the town’s population was 270.
