Dike is an unincorporated community in Hopkins County. It was first settled around 1850 when a mill and a small log schoolhouse were built; the mill continued to operate past the Civil War but it was replaced by a gin and mill, owned by a different keeper, in 1887. In 1890, a post office was awarded and the name was changed from Booneville to Dike, after the honoree’s hometown in Dike, Iowa. A public school was established in 1905 and by 1914, the community had six general stores, two physicians, and a blacksmith. The number of residents increased to 250 in 1925 but it was decreased after WWII. In 1985, Dike had three churches, a post office, a business, a camp, and a population of 170. The population remained the same towards the year 2000.
