Dobbin is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County and part of the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its earliest mention came from the French explorer René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, who camped northwest of the site in 1687. One of the first family settlers was that of Noah and Ester Griffith, who were the recipients of the Mexican land grant in 1831. In 1878, a rail line was built through the area and a couple of years after, a post office was opened under the name Bobbin. In 1885, Bobbin had become a shipping center for cotton and lumber, and it had four sawmills, two general stores, a gristmill, a flour mill, a church, a school, a daily mail service, and a physician. In 1909, the town’s name was changed to Dobbin. Despite its unincorporated status, the community remains to have an operational post office.
