Gallatin is a city located in Cherokee County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the town’s population was 419. Gallatin is incorporated and lies on the intersection of Farm Roads 22 and 768. The area where the city now is was firstly settled in the 1840s, but a proper community wasn’t formed all until 1902. John W. Chandler and his sister asked attorney from Rusk to plant a townsite after Texas and New Orleans Railroad was being built. Chandler gave the name Gallatin for his hometown in Tennessee. A big part of Gallatin’s public education system is being provided by the Rusk Independent School District. The town’s total area is 4.6 square miles according to the U.S Bureau.
