Garrison was named for a man that bought the land nearby in the mid-1880s, Captain J.H. Garrison. The town’s start was in 1884 when the land was purchased. Garrison is a city situated in Nacogdoches County in Texas. They had a population of 895 residents as of the 2010 census. The U.S Bureau stated that the town’s population was 1.2 square miles, all of it is land. The Garrison Independent School District provides the city’s public education system. Maud Irwin was the first female mayor in Texas, she was elected in Garrison in 1937. The town’s citizens claim that the town was the first incorporated town in the county but the year is unknown.
