Joaquin is a city situated in Shelby County in Texas. At the 2010 census, the city’s population was 824 citizens. It is situated on the tracks of Southern Pacific Road, and the U.S Highway 84. The lands were discovered in 1885. As a station for the Houston Railway, and East and West Texas Railways. Benjamin Franklin Morris donated this land and it was named for his grandson Joaquin. The town’s post office was opened one year later. Joaquin used to be a trading center for lumber and cotton. The town gained its incorporation in 1940. The population started to increase as the Toledo Bend Reservoir was developed.
