The town is located in San Saba County, Texas, United States. The town was started as a processing and supply center for cattlemen and cotton growers. In 1854, Jackson J. Brown in the company of the family were the first settlers in this town. The family settled near Richland Springs Creek, initially known as Richland Creek. The first fort in this area was erected in the late 1850s during the clash with Indians. The fort was later rendered useless after the dispute settled down. The area was named after the Richland Springs that facilitated for agricultural activities. The first post office was established in Samuel Hays’ store.
