The census-designated place (CDP) of Banquete is found at the intersection of FM 666 and State Highway 44. The town got its name from a local four-day event that was held to celebrate the completion of a road that links Matamoros to San Patricio. The city was granted a post office in 1859 while the first school, a one-room structure, was built in 1870. By 2010, census statistics showed that the area had a population of 726. Some of the major attractions here include the Sablatura Park, Hale Dusting Service, St. Michael the Archangel, and the First Baptist Church Parsonage.
