Batson is part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur Metropolitan area and sits along the State Highway 105, in the southern part of the Hardin County. The Batson family is believed to have been the first people to settle in this community before 1840. An oilfield was discovered here in October 1903. The discovery made the town's population skyrocket to over 10,000. This number drastically declined to 600 in the mid-1920s when oil production decreased. There was another oil discovery in 1935 that slightly boosted the economic activities of the area, but it never fully recovered as it's been on a gradual decline since then.
