The US city of Cactus is located in Moore County in the state. The city began as a production company for ammunition during World War II. Texas Ordnance Works was among the most significant plants established in Cactus by the Chemical Construction Company in 1942. Later in 1943, the plant started manufacturing ammonium nitrate used in explosives. Activities in this plant were suspended a few months into operation after the supply became unnecessary, leading to its closure. In early 1944, Shell Union Oil and Gas Corporation took over the plant and started to produce aviation gasoline. Cactus post office came into establishment in 1948.
