Del Valle is an unincorporated community in Travis County. It is a suburb of Austin and a part of the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Statistical Area. Del Valle was named after Santiago Del Valle, the owner of the original land grant. It was developed in the mid-1870s and was granted a post office later that decade. Consequently, the community had three churches, two cotton gins, a gristmill, and a school. Towards the late 1920s, the town had an estimated 150 residents; however, that number dropped drastically during the Great Depression; one source mentioned 25 residents. When Del Valle AirField was constructed in 1942, the town grew. The field was then renamed Bergstrom AFB and became the Austin Bergstrom International Airport in the 1980s. Apparently, as of 2009, businesses were closed, vacant lots fill the area, and abandoned signs litter the town.
