Douglassville is a town in Cass County. It was first populated in the early 1850s and was named after John Douglass, an early settler. Most of the town’s primary occupants came from Alabama and Georgia, and a lot of them had established plantations along the Red River. In 1854, the settlement was granted a post office, which remained to operate until 1990. The area became a market and supply center past the Civil War. The community was incorporated in the 1950s and four decades after, Douglassville had 4 businesses and 228 residents. The population declined towards the 1990s until it became 175 in the year 2000.
