Smyer is a town in Hockley County, Texas, United States. It has a population of 474 according to the census that took place in 2010. The town was officially started in 1925 but the settlement was already there before that time. In 1902, Isaac L. Ellwood acquired 262,000 acres (1,060 km2) in Hockley and Lamb Counties and formed the Spade Ranch. The portions of that ranch were already a community.
