Sour Lake is a city in Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population is about 1.830 according to the census of 2010. The city is named after the sulphurous spring water that flowed into the nearby lake and it was first known as Sour Lake Springs. Sour Lake was first settled in 1835 in what was then Mexico. Oil was quickly discovered at the start of the 20th century but there were bigger wells nearby and the boom was short-lived. The median income of a family living in Sour Lake is about $30.000
