Ballinger City is located in Runnels County in the US state of Texas. It is about 70 miles south of Abilene. The 2010 census reported its population as 3,767. It currently serves as Runnels County’s seat. The city sprouted courtesy of the operations of the Santa Fe Railway. Ballinger was originally known as Hutchins City. The name was later changed to Ballinger after Judge William Ballinger, a townsite official and railroad attorney at the time. He was also a Mexican War veteran and Texas statesman. Currently, the city has several industries, including leather products manufacturing, meat products, and dairy, among others.
