Blessing is in Matagorda County, Texas, United States. This census-designated place acquired its name after the first suggestion was rendered unsuitable. The name 'Thank God' was dismissed by postal officials, which led to the name 'Blessing.' The reason behind the name was due to the extension of the railroad. The residents were appreciative of generous gesture by the then railway authorities. After its expansion, early settlers in Blessing were delighted after the rail reached this place. In turn, they decided to give a name that showed gratitude to God. Since 1903, a post office under this name has been operating in this place.
