Byers is the Clay County seat in Texas at the intersection of state highway. Byers is a part of Wichita Falls; a Texas metropolitan area. The city's foundation directs to two brothers George Washington Byers and Anthony Walter in 1904. The brothers partnered and acquired a large portion of land and established a general store. However, there are conflicting theories on how the two bought this land. Later in 1906, Byers had its first cotton gin and a national bank in 1914. Byers receives education through the Petrolia Independent School District. Initially, Byers Independent School District provided training before merging with Petrolia through voting in 2012.
