The unincorporated community of Ringgold is located along the U.S Highways 82 and 81 in Montague County in the state of Texas. The community was initially known as Harrisonia. The name was in honor of Joe Harris. Harris owned the land at the intersection of Rock Island and Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroads. The Rock Island Railroad was constructed in this area in 1892, contributing to its development. The name was changed to Ringgold after Harris's wife's family name. In 1892, Ringgold post office was founded. The community developed as a market center due to its strategic position at the railroad’s intersection.
