Fieldton was originally called Jaun Dell by Jim Pickrell, after his two granddaughters. In 1930 the name was changed by borrowing names of neighboring towns Littlefield and Olton. It lies on the high plains of the Llano Estacado, a dry tributary of the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River in eastern Lamb County. The post office opened in 1930. The first church, built in 1926, was shared by the Baptists, Methodists, and Church of Christ. In 1931, a cotton gin started operation at the area. The population was estimated to be 126 from 1980 to 2000.
