Santa Elena is an unincorporated community in Starr County, Texas, United States. It’s a small, dispersed, rural community that once had about 130 residents, and now has about 65. Even though the community isn’t incorporated, it has its own zip code and public education is provided by the San Isidro Independent School District. It’s safe to say that the community existed as far back as 1899 since there are records of school enrolments from that time, but it’s possible it’s been around longer than that. It peaked in population in 1930.
